
Def Jam emcee Nas in a Wednesday interview with Funkmaster Flex of Hot 97 announced that he contributed music to the soundtrack for the film "Blood Diamond," featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou. "I'm not in it but felt like I'd shout them out. They treated me real nice," said Nas. Set in war-torn 1990's Sierra Leone, "Blood Diamond" is the story of two quite different men in search of the same rare pink diamond that can save one's family and jump-start life for the other. "I think it's going to shake up some stuff out there with the whole way it's happening with them coming from over there on the continent, the way it's brought over there," said Nas of the film."I think it's gonna help out some stuff," Nas added. When Flex prodded the historically socially conscious emcee about the diamonds he was wearing Nas responded, "I like these shiny things, man. And sometimes I wear them and I think about it like, 'Yo, man. These belong to me. I'm buying it back.' I'm trying to get involved." The Hot 97 interview centered around the release of Nas' upcoming Def Jam Recordings debut 'Hip Hop is Dead, the N,' due December 19.
