Off Duty Police Officer Strikes Woman Bystandard With Car

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI - FOX2now.com) - An off-duty police officer accidentally struck a woman with his car in East St. Louis Wednesday night. An unidentified 42 year old woman was walking in the middle of the roadway when she was struck just before 9 p.m Wednesday. She later died at St. Louis University Hospital. The incident occurred at 15th Street and Piggott Avenue.

East St. Louis police are not identifying the officer but said he is a veteran of the department with 10 years on the force. The officer was ticketed for driving a vehicle with an expired registration.

The officer was not on duty at the time and was driving his personal vehicle when he struck the woman. He called 9-1-1 immediately.
