Who Or What influenced You To Rap

Post by -MiiLz. »

When i First Started The People Who influenced Me Was Lil Wayne, My Olda Bro, And TheGuyYouHate. Even Though i Didnt Know Much About Rap Sometimes When I Payed Lil Wayne's Tracks i Would Hear Some Nice Lines Like Something About Him in The Streets " Sucka Free, Sucka Proof, 50 Sots Cut Em Loose Weezy Babe Quarter Backshot Gun Run And Shoot " ..And i Was Like Damn i Like How This Lil Niggah Be Havin Type Of Shit Like That ..Then i Would Freestyle With My Olda Bro Who Was Betta But im Now Bettah Rapper Then Him ..But One Day i Decided To Go To This Chat room Site Where i Met "Domino,Hazard, TheGuyYouHate" And i Started Dropping Keystyles And They Was Makin Fun Of My Lyrics. But i Thought i Was The Best, Lol But i Was Doing 1 Syllbables No Punch Line Type Of Shit. Then Once i Saw TheGuyYouHate Droppin Lyrics He Would Be Smashin Every Emcee Who He Battled ..Then He Showed Me His Soundclick THen i Started Tryna Get My Shit Up ..But Like This if i Never Went To The Chatroom And Met Domino And Hazard And TheGuyYouHate i Wouldnt Be Where i Am Now ..Because At First i Thought They Was Just Hating And Now im Probably The BEst Rapper At My Age.

Nothing really influenced me too rap. I always wrote poetry and when I stumbled on the site I saw that some of the elements of poetry are used in rap and so I started dropping some pieces and when I got negative feed and started losing battles thats when I really put my foot down and tried to learn the elements of rap.

Once I got into it, the way some of my style is now, people who have influenced me are Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tech N9ne, and Complexity.

Good topic. Glad too see you contributing to the site in a positive way.

it started for me at the age of 11 or 12.
this may be funny to some, but i watched 8 Mile and was like "damn, i wanna do that." i said that i wanted to be able to just let loose on people or w.e and just rap. so id just walk around the house freestylin out loud. and my brother would make fun of me and tell me im good for nothing (still does) and than i just stopped. and started poetry. at my age my poems were pretty damn good to me and other ppl thought so too. than i just went in AIM chatrooms askin ppl for battles and w.e and have like big tourneys. and did wat ever for the next couple of years. than i moved into my new house in which im livin at now. and i got a computer and i got a Myspace met some ppl and some one showed me Cool Edit Pro. and kinda taught me how to use it (i got most of it by myself) than i found an age old desktop mic. and used that and i met some ppl at my new school who rapped also. so wed be at lunch freestylin and i ate up some cats. and my neighbor was a metal head typa cat and he wanted to rap. so we just got to it and did our thang.
the ppl who influence me are the following:
8 Mile
Eminem
Lil Wayne.
2 Pac.
Diddy
Jeezy
Faith

i Just Thought it Would Be a Nice Addition To My Long List Of Skills, To Be Honest. i Thought The Whole idea Of Freestyle Battles Was Cool, So That's All i Really Worked On. But When i Took it More Seriously in 06 it Was Because i Was Going Through Shit And i Guess i Put All This Negative Energy into it And Created Something Positive. The Time When i Started Losing interest in Early 07 is Coincidentially Also The Time When Things Started Looking Better For Me So i Donno if They're Linked Or What.

Now im a Punk Rocker! \m/,

At the end of '00 a close friend of mine named Sarah Hildreth gave me a mini-5 Star spiral note-pad for my birthday. So couldn't afford to give me much, but it was the thought that counted the most that made this lil $3 booklet so valuable. I opened it up and this is what it said on the first page...

December 28th, 2000
"The beauty of the written word is that it can be held to the heart
and read over and over again."
-Florence Littauer (speaker/author/teacher)

Those words are true Rocky. This book is for you to record your thoughts,
rhymes, whatever you have the time for. I find having this kind of outlet
works. Anyways, Happy Birthday Rocky!
Love,
Sarah Hildreth

I was goin through alot of ups and downs at the time, kinda feelin lost in life and I just jotted down poetry on loose pieces of paper occassionally to pass the time. After serving a short sentence in mid '01, I found the book again and decided to write a little song instead of a poem. Well it didn't turn out to bad and I had alot of fun writing it. And with my time being locked up, I had a moment to reflect on shit...so with this new found love for writing, it just kinda took off to the next level from there. I started writing more songs than poems and the rest is kinda history from there I guess. I wrote for years, but didn't get to record my first song until the end of '05. The song writing was always a hobby up until that point. And once I heard my first recording it just made me thirsty for more! So I didn't get to be seriously into music until '06 and that's when I met Viral and him and I just kinda felt the same vibe and made music since then.

So really in the end I owe Sarah, because if it wasn't for her I would've never had taken writing (or myself) more serious.

Early Hip-Hop influences were:
-2Pac
-Heavy D & The Boyz
-Slick Rick
-Ya Kid K & Technotronic
-C&C Muzik Factory
