Busta Rhymes Arrested

Post by Conspiracy »

Busta Rhymes made headlines again this weekend when he was arrested and charged with assault in New York.

According to the New York Daily News, Rhymes (a.k.a Trevor Smith) was arrested after he performed at Randall's Island's AmsterJam festival on Saturday, August 19th, on charges of third-degree assault, attempted assault, harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stemmed from an episode that occurred on August 12th, when Rhymes, 34, and a couple of his boys roughed up a man who spat on his SUV near Gramercy Park.

Rhymes was performing at the AmsterJam Festival on Randall's' Island, taking the opportunity to get out and promote his upcoming album, The Big Bang. Billboard.com reports that Rhymes and his entourage attempted to flee the area after being tipped off that the police were looking for them, but were arrested at about 8 p.m. that night.

Rhymes was locked up for 12 hours and then released.

Regardless of the situation at hand, police reportedly utilized the opportunity to question Rhymes about the Feb. 5th murder of his bodyguard, Israel Ramirez, during a Brooklyn video shoot. Rhymes didn't cooperate.

According to the Daily News, police believe the shooting originated from a fight involving G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo, in whose car the shooter is believed to have escaped. Yayo has declined to be interviewed about the case.

Meanwhile, according to the New York Post, activist Geoffrey Davis, who runs a Brooklyn-based anti-violence group, is asking fans to boycott Rhymes' album, concerts and movies until he breaks his silence.

"This 'no snitching' stuff is only going to lead to worse scenarios," said Davis.

Davis' brother, City Councilman James Davis, was gunned down in City Hall in July 2003 by a political rival.
