Stop smoking, write your bars shorter, and with all your multis ghost,
its a whole different situation then tramatic. You just need to practice like crazy.
And keep your speed at a normal pace. If you speed up for the multis
like say ludacris. Thats a whole other talent.
Memorize your verses - believe it or not it will make it easier to breathe.
How you write has a lot to do with it as well. You need to write smoothly.
Weird transitions. And off beat writing. Won't help you. Keeping your flow
on point. Makes a huge difference.
Some other things that might seem obvious. Don't record when your tired.
Your immune system and breathing wont be as good. Be wide awake.
Obviously I'm not a skilled rapper. Though I have asthma. And with these
things only. I don't have breathing problems anymore.
If you don't believe me about the breathing thing. Try freestyling. Ill bet
you can do it for a while. But when you do your verse its different. Then
you will get my points.

Freestyling is Easier Cuz ur Not Followin Any Pattern. i Totally Agree With Complex On What He Said Tho. Cuz Writin ur Verse And Not Readin Over it Before u Record Just Means u Trip n Shit. Get Used 2 it With The Beat. And Yah im The Same With My Audio Structure Cuz i Have Asthma And i Smoke. So Even Taking Short Breaths in The Middle Of Lines (Again Down 2 ur Structure And Emotion Of The Verse) And u Can Soon Master That, it's All About Rhythm. a Good Thing To Do if ur Using Multis (Which i Presume Most Of u Will Be) u Gtta Make it Louder, But The Same Pitch as The Multi u Use On The Next Line. So it's Rhyming in a Lot More Ways Than What You've Written Down On ur Pad, Comp, Etc And Helps a Lot. Cuz Mine Used 2 Just Fly Over Heads.

yeah i feel yuh both, my freestyles are on point and on flow wit the beat, but i realize that smokin and not exercisin has a great deal of impression on the way your rhymes sound on audio. when i do audios i read straight off the computer or paper (which ever im doin) but ill record until i get it down, but it still puts a hault in the emotion and breaks in the flow and makes it choppy.
And kurse said there were breathin exercises you could do, could someone explain those to us?

i'll smack yuh with rage i force multis outta my ass to the page

To be honest. The first time I ever spit in a studio man I was nervous. It was a big dumbass studio and I got about 8 miggaz in the lab listenin to me while I'm in the booth. Being my first time you know my ass is fuckin up. lol It's just more nerve wreckin when you know there's a gang of mutha fuckas listenin. But in a way it's good. You can't be shy. You step into the booth...or in front of a mic...you gotta spit like ur doin a live show. You gotta perform. Just cuz the people can't see you perform in the booth doesn't mean that they're not gonna hear the "performance"...know whut I'm sayin!? Being shy...hesitant..all that shit...CUT IT OUT. You don't need that...people can hear hesitation and shit on the mic. And if ur not feelin what ur spittin...people can hear that too. Cuz you don't need just emotion..but you need energy.
Spit the way you breath. Like me...you'll never catch me doin a super fast track. I have slight asthma so I have to pattern out my breathing and do breathin exercises. So I run outta air quick than most. But as you can see from my audios...it CAN be worked around. I still spit clean. So it doesn't interfer. You know ur writing...and you know ur body. So make them work together for you.
Committing ur verses to memory. Yea...that helps. But alot of artists right or line up certain words to the beat. Like you're familiar with "such and such" word being said right after "this particuliar snare drum" hits. Some people build around the beat. Personally that's how I like to structure my songs. But when it comes to doubling it up...it's not about remembering ur lyrics...it's about remembering where in the beat and how you said the first ones. You want them to line up perfectly.
As far as mics. When you have a condensed mic...you never never never wanna be vocally loud up in it. Those mics are sensative enough to pic up the sound of air flow in ur room. (trust me...i know...i'm a sound & recording engineer for my label too...lol) So back up about 2 feet away from the mic and spit ur shit in a hearty tone, but DON'T scream ur emotions...just let them out as if you were arguing a point with ur bf/gf at the time. Now if you use a standard mic (which is also known as a live concert mic...these usually have 1/4 inch jacks) then you need to remain about a foot away from it and have the head of the mic even to the level of you mouth. These mics don't pic up as clearly...so you need to be a little closer and slightly louder. If the head of the mic isn't pointed toward ur mouth...you'll sound distant in the recording stages and you'll need to do it over again. One thing you must always have though. A POP-FILTER. I can't stress that enough. I hear so many emcees spit there shit decently and then when they say a word that starts with a "B" or especially a "P"...it just sounds like someone smacked the mic with a brick! That shit sounds like ass and I'll turn a song like that off! Get a pop filter...they are a MUST HAVE for all studios and mini-studios.
If you wanna know anything else...just lemme know.

Breathing exersices consist of taking deep breaths. Holding ur breath. Breathing in and out of ur mouth quickly. Shit like that.~Symbolikull~ wrote:And kurse said there were breathin exercises you could do, could someone explain those to us?
Taking Deep Breaths- Thats self explanatory...if I have to explain this to you then you've obviously never been to a doctors appointment.
Holding Your Breath- Ever get mad as a kid and say, "Fine...well I'm just gonna hold my breath until you by it for me!!!" Same concept. Start off by holding your breath for 10 seconds. If you can do it...hold it for 15 seconds. Still too easy? 20 seconds. And so on. Say it gets a little harder tryin to get to the 45 second mark. You keep letting up at 42 seconds. Then keep tryin to hold ur breath until you actually can do it. And when you finally do...your next goal is 50 seconds...and so on after that.
Breathing Quickly- It's like exercising or doin Tae Bo or sumthin...lol Whenever you get physically active...you breath fast. Well do the same thing only without working out. Breath in and out of ur mouth fast. Quick rapid inhales and exhales. This is a simple exercise...I'm sure y'all can handle it.
