Reasonable Doubt is far superior in almost every aspect to Infinite & Slim Shady LP.

I don't even think that Jay Z can battle. All writers are not battlers and vice versa. I know he use to spit a bunch of reasonable doubt lines against DMX back in the day, but that doesn't really count.

i give it to young eminem, dude was just grimey and mad lyrical.
jay was a flower, more distiguished yeah. but eminems style was fresher, for infinite. resonable doubt cant really compare to that good of a lyrical jewel

Do you own a copy of Infinite that I don't own because the one that I have consists of about 12-18 verses tops and I'd say half of them are stellar while the rest are just mediocre.

Em is embarrassed by the album, I wouldn't go that far, but it surely isn't his best work.

Jay Z brought all quarters of hip hop together into Reasonable Doubt. A feat accomplished by nobody else besides him at that point. That is why the album ranks so high.

He was conscience, he had dope rhyme schemes, he taunted, he had crazy wordplay, he was street, he was self aware about being street, to look over the fact that his album was ground breaking for them reasons, you take a lot away from Jay Z. Before he turned mainstream and continued to dominate, he set the standard of how to put together a almost flawless record that would be timeless.

Slim Shady LP, Infinite, they surely don't feel timeless. I don't want to take away from some of the exceptional tracks on either album, and on wax, Eminem could have done circles around Jay back then because it wasn't Jay's forte, when it comes down to contributing to the legacy of hip hop, I would say that Em did more after Slim Shady LP then before. "Lose Yourself", "White America", "Mosh", "8 Mile" and having one of the most insane albums of all time "Marshall Mathers LP", in my opinion, will be his legacy.

I think the nostalgia factor because a lot of you grew up in the Slim Shady period does help shape your opinion. I'm not saying that mine is superior, I just want to hear more detailed reasons why the Young Em deserves the title as the better MC then the Young Jay.

Compare and contrast.

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eminem/rockbottom.html [ Rock Bottom ]

One of Em's most praised songs.

http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/jayz/canilive.html [ Can I Live ]

One of Jay's most praised songs.

Jay doesn't have a straight up lyrical song that is focused around rhyming like "Infinite" that we could compare, that is the best I can come up with.

Young Jay-z

Peep the style and the way the cops sweat us
The number one question is can the Feds get us
I got vendettas in dice games against ass betters
and niggaz who pump wheels and drive Jettas
While y'all pump Willie, I run up in stunts silly
Scared, so you sent your little mans to come kill me
But on the contrilli, I packs the mack-milli
Squeezed off on him, left them paramedics breathin soft on him
Jay-Z, Big' Smalls, nigga shit ya drawers
Brooklyn represent y'all, hit you fold
You crazy, think your little bit of rhymes can play me?
I'm from Marcy, I'm varsity, chump, you're JV
No more, Mister, Nice Guy, I twist your shit
the fuck back with them pistols, blazin
Hot like cajun
Hotter than even holdin work at the Days Inn
with New York plates outside
Get up outta there, fuck your ride
For nine six, the only MC with a flu
Yeah I rhyme sick, I be what you're tryin to do
Made a fortune off Peru, extradite, china white heron
Nigga please, like short sleeves I bear arms
Stay out my way from here on (CLEAR?) Gone!
time to separate the pros from the cons
The platinum from the bronze
That butter soft shit from that leather on the Fonz
A S1 diamond from a eye class don
A Cham' Dom' sipper from a Rosay nigga, huh?!
Brook-Nam, sippin on

---------------------------------------------------------

Young Eminem

Ayo, my pen and paper cause a chain reaction
To get your brain relaxin, cause they be actin maniac in action
A brainiac in fact son, you mainly lack attraction
You looking zany whack with just a fraction of my tracks spun
My rhyming skills got you climbing hills
I travel through your mind until you spine like siren drills
I'm sliming grills of roaches, with sprayed on disinfectants
With some ex rappers till their spinal column disconnects
We disinfect then check the monologue, turn your system up
Twist them up, and indulge in the marijuana smoke
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more cartoons than animation
My lamination of narration
Hit's a snare and bass of track fucked up rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...
Bust it, I let the beat commence so I can beat the sense of your elite defense
I got to meet the fence fruit was stompin at your feet to rinse
I greet intensive ladies, I spoil all your fans
I foil plans and leave fluids leaking like oil bands
My coil hands around this microphone lethal
One thought in my cerebral is deeper then a Jeep full of people
MC's are feeble, I came to cause some pandemonium
Battle a band of phony MC's and stand the only one
Imitator, Intimidator, Stimulator, Simulator of data, Eliminator
There's never been a greater since the burial of Jesus
Fuck around and catch all of the venereal diseases
My thesis will smash a stereo to pieces
My accapella releases plastic masterpieces through telekinesis
And eases you mentally, gently, sentimentally, instrumentally
With entity, dementedly meant to be Infinite
Man I got evidence I'm never dense and I been clever ever since
My residence was hesitant to do some shit that represents the M-O
So I'm assuming all responsibility
Cause there's a monster will in me that always wants to kill MC's
Mic messaler, slamming like a wrestler
Here to make a mess of a lyric smuggling embezzler
No one is speacialer, My skill is intergalactical
I get cynical at a fool then I send a crew back to school
I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn't practical
I'd rather led a tactful, tractical, track for your fancy
In fact I can't see, or can't imagine
A man who ain't a lover of beats or a fan of scratching
This is for my family, the kid who had a cameo on my last jam
Plus the man who never had a plan B
Be all you can be, cause once you make an instant hit
I'm tense to be tempted when I see the sins my friends commit...
I'm Infinite

reasonable doubt > slim shady lp

so obviously young jay-z
Respect this, specialist, black, testing this and get ya necklace jacked
Your after name scratched up off my guestlist, party freak
You the type of nigga that'll hardly speak unless you spoken to
You throw a cold screw but sober up when I'm approaching you
At the same time we postin two niggaz on that ass
Thats gonna do what they supposed to do the limelight
Snatched away from you because its my night
Killarm' blaze hotter than twilight, you better get ya lines right
Half of these crabs cant even rhyme right

I say they're about even. I don't know if I could say that either one tops the other in that time period. I think Eminem is definitely got the one up on lyrics, on the other hand, not every track of his is dope. He's got some flops, too. Jay-Z has the consistency and doesn't need shocking lyrics to get attention. It's kind of apples and oranges in a way because I've never really considered Jay-Z to be a very good lyricist. He's better than most, but there are still a lot better out there. But I do agree that Reasonable Doubt was a better album than Infinite and Slim Shady LP. Em was still transforming his style. He sounds like AZ on Infinite. I think the problem with Eminem is that it takes something to drive him to do his best, i.e. disses. Comparing these two MCs is almost like the tortoise vs the hare except the race is never ending. Eminem being the hare, Jay-Z the tortoise. Em might leap ahead but then flop while Jay-Z's consistency keeps him competitive. On the other hand, Jay-Z never has to change his voice to sound like an Arabic or whatever the hell Em is attempting. It gets kind of annoying.

hmm interesting.

are we taking a battle or just in general?

in general id definitly go with a young Jay Z
Infite is nothing in comparison to Reasonable Doubt. Reasonable Doubt is an all time classic and i dont even like Infinite. Also Jay Z was dope as fuck before Reasonable Doubt when his flow was faster for example his verse on the Big L track Da Graveyard.

Overall id say tie

both have a couple of classic and a buch of average albums.
Eminme never fully recovered from his racist tape lol

Ah, another aspect I forgot. Yes, Eminem has his strange accented rap voice sometimes, but Jay-Z has his adlibs... both equally annoying. I hate adlibs and hype men.

Any of yall heard the Jigga track "D.O.A."?? (Death Of Auto-tune)... shit's hot. Reminiscent of Takeover. Shit might be old, I dunno, I'm in Iraq, I don't know wtf is going in on the industry.
