composition is good but the sounds are cheap. If it wasn't for that this would be polished...minus the hook which really doesn't compliment the original hook much. I'm sure that the hook is a lot catchier on the original beat

the original doesn't have a hook section, but yeah the hook section could've been better, its just something i whipped up quick

the sounds are cheap? like from a shitty synth? nah they're all high quality synths, strings, & brass, but now that i listen to it i probably should've added staccato strings over the legatos in the chords maybe thats what you're referring to since they don't have a strong attack and kinda sit in the background

The harmonies are what? Strings with a synth melody over it? To me it just comes off sounding a bit like a cheap piano

What sounds do you typically use? I've always been told that VST's are the best but producing really isn't my forte. I end up using Komplete, Trilogy, Sonic Synth, Hypersonic, Pro53 and still get the same comment from people saying it sounds cheap. I've concluded that I just can't mix lol

theirs a legato string section, a synth bassline, and a legato string + brass section that goes with the bassline, on the hook theirs a piano which is in a high octave but still sounds fine

theirs not really such a thing as sounding cheap, sounds from some synths don't sound realistic but they're not really meant to, when i use real instruments i use vsts that use samples from real instruments when i use synths i use synthesizer vsts

i used minimonsta, hypersonic 2, trilogy, & edirol for this, i got a buncha vsts i use minimonsta, minimoog V, hypersonic, trilogy, amplitube, edirol, real guitar, & real strat alot, i use alot of other ones but not as often

the way I critique it is whether or not it sounds like something that would actually be played on the radio or on jay z's album. Something about the sounds and/or mixing just doesn't make it seem professional

well yeah the mixing isn't that great not one of my strongpoints i'm alright at it though
