Cakewalk

Post by Mass Effex »

I am looking at beat making software and was wondering if anyone could tell me how Cakewalk sonar is, or reason. I use FL, but I want to get something a little more professional.

Cakewalk isn't bad. Reason is really good, especially if you get alot of additional instrument plug-ins. Don't under estimate FL though...I made a few bangers using that shit.
Magix Music Maker Deluxe (Producers Edition) is really dope! But don't rely completely on your comp. If you wanna up you production game...get yourself a sampler and a keyboard...they'll all syncronize with ProTools and you can bounce around and ass shit from other production programs from there.

cakewalk isn't that great tryed it, didn't like it, reason has good stock sounds but its sequencer is absolute shit and it doesn't support vsts

FL is your best bet, theirs just an internet stigma around it because so many wack beats have been made on it but its not any more less professional then the other 2 in fact alot more "professional" hip hop producers use it than any other program, its stock sounds are mostly trash but stryus (its stock vst) is just as good as alotta vsts that cost $100's, since its more popular theirs alot more support and tutorials available online too which is a big help for beginners

my recommendation for a good start, use FL and get some good quality VST's, & consider buying a midi keyboard or just a midi controller if you wanna get a hands on feel & know how to play keys, a midi controller will work basically the same as a sampler you'll just be loading sounds from your computer into it as opposed to from its own hardrive like you would a sampler, you can grab a decent midi controller for under $100

Thanks Jesus, I have FL, and those corny sounds is the reason why I don't like it. But I like the easy use. Do you mean MIDI controller like a drum pad?

yeah they're not just a drum pad though you can send any sound or vst to them

for a good variety of sounds get hypersonic, its got basically every instrument and a wide variety of synths, like i said stryus is good but just for synths it doesn't really have any "real" sounding instruments

i'd hook you up with a buncha shit but my new nets got a bandwidth cap, i'll sift thru my bookmarks and get you some good sites to check out in a lil bit

DL VST's precise, wav soundpacks aren't good for anything other than drums, quotes, or sound fx, theirs thousands of vsts out with millions of sounds, (reason doesn't support vsts which is wack)

any of them will get you a good beat if your a good producer..
FL is a good program, better than cakewalk IMO..i tried them
both but personally i like reason..that shyt is dope it comes with some decent sounds and if you download the refill packs shyt is fire..it just takes a minute to learn all the little tricks you can do with it..

reason 3.0 or reason 4.0 deff professional enough..
