Ideally they should have both. I mean im not impressed by bunch of multis if the song sucks. Lyrics are important if its entertaining whether its some shoot em up shit or political or just punchlines. If its entertaing i`ll bump it. But if your in the club or in the motor you want something with a bangin beat. But its got to be rapped over. fuck all this solja boy and down south shit. i dont even consider that rap.

lyrics. thats the difference between band wagon riders and tru fans. ppl just listen to the beat and are like amazing and just sing the lyrics because the beat was catchy. thats what happened to 50. thats what made him so good popularity wise. but in reality hes shit.

The beat is very important because whether the lyrics were good or not you can still listen to a track. I have the most appreciation for lyrics but if a track had a crap beat I dont even bother listening to the lyrics.

yeah i feel what your saying but music is made for more than one purpose. i mean if your in the club u want to hear something with a beat. what does the term lyrics mean? like i said a whole bunch of complicated multis dosent impress me if their not saying anything. for me the beat has to be good and the rapper needs to have a good presence on the mic, ride the beat and ideally say something that is entertaining or meaningful. thats why i rate ice cube so highly because he ticks all those boxes

ill lyrics over beat anyday...to me the lyrics make the song..not the beat...but wen it comes to mainstream if u got a shitty beat...people wont feel ur track as much...even if the lyrics r dope as fuck...which is pretty bogus...thats y so many wack rappers r signed wit hits becuz their lyrics suck but the beat is good...cuz most people dont listen to nething but the beat...
