A Long Time Ago

"Are you trepidacious of the days ahead?"
"No." He remarked with a blistering retort
The sound so sharp it could raise the dead.
"How can you dread the inevitable" he said.
I was surprised by the sweet taste of courage
My mouth was dry;for I had been malnourished
Don't get me wrong, I went to war; that's the truth
We were forced to; freedom was in our pursuit
it was 1860; states were on the brink of secession
because Abraham Lincoln had won the presidential election
I respected my master, he taught me to read and write
even let me glance the NY TIMES, late at night
for if I take a chance and leave him, I might die
I postulated who I should be doing right by
my brothers in arms, or the master who hits me
who seems to get physical, mainly after his whiskey
his eccentricity, tortured his wife like an execution
if you looked into her eyes, you could see retribution
she was a modest lady; behaved and didn't act crazy
though once she struck him, but hadn't hit him back lately
she was beating for weeks straight for that mistake
it fascinated me how his hands didn't assassinate
with all the practice, all the smacks and hits
he would crack his fists and not one blow was passionless
in his absentness, he wasn't practicing abstinence
who is? it's tautological, relationships are based on attraction
Satan horns are like breasts, waitin for ur devilish satisfaction
a distraction from God, premarital sex doesn't belong in your soul
now a days; adultery is common like colds
what can i expect in the days of darwinism, people are ill-advised
I know; I'm still alive for a reason and I have no will to die
I don't come from a chimp, I denounce blasphemy against him
there has been disbelievers ever since Jesus's ascension
beliefs in suspension, to be honest, I can't stand it
dammit! if everyone would follow the 10 commandments
"Where are the soldiers, with fright I asked"
He replied. "Right, behind you". /-slash-/
"And You" I claimed, His neck was sliced off, blood drained fast
I expected myself to get the same gash
The Soldier yelled "Get Up!" I immediately leaped
He ran the sword across my neck, and said "you've been released"
"If I hear from you again, you'll be six feet deceased"
I was shocked at these developments, but ran to the east
at least twenty miles in the heat, I couldn't stand on my feet
when a man screamed at me, come here, and what do i see
a pathway to freedom, I knew, I was free
