New Orleans rapper Mystikal, currently serving a six-year bid for sexual battery, was sentenced last week to one year in prison for failure to pay $271,000 in federal taxes. The New Orleans rapper is to serve both sentences concurrently, said U.S. District Judge James Brady.
In June 2003, Mystikal pleaded guilty to forcing his former hairstylist to perform oral sex after accusing her of stealing $80,000 in checks. His two bodyguards, Leland Ellis and Vercy Carter, were also convicted and received a three and four-year sentence, respectively.
In the tax evasion case, Mystikal pleaded guilty in August to two misdemeanor courts for failing to earn taxes on $824,916 he earned in 1998 and $930,953 in 1999. In addition to the one-year sentence, the judge ordered him to pay back taxes and subsequent penalties.
