I saw bits n pieces on Anderson Cooper. Interesting that he spoke a little bit on immigration & global warming, etc.

^exactly, me and 8th talked about this a lil on aim
basically nearly everything he said is near impossible to happen before he leaves office
now it all sounds good, but is it likely to happen by the ned of the year? nope
what hes did is created a burden for the next president, if the president doesn't do what he said in this address(or "continue will probably be the word used even though little is going to get accomplished this year) the republicans will make it look like the next president is worse(unless its a republican elected but even then they might if the electee is a little more liberal to gather a wider array of voters)
but actually he had alot of good ideas, this is one of the better state of the unions i've seen in awhile, its just hard to believe everything he said'll happen so he just said a sugarcoated list of what people would like to see happen, without a whole lot of potential that it could actually happen

i really and truthfully could give to shits about politics, but when is minimum wage goin up to $7.25/hr????

like i said, it was better than i expected. He spoke in very vague terms. I REALLY liked the part where he talking about making the ear marks visible, and not just taking on rediculous amounts of pork. and when he said, regardless of whether you wanted to be in Iraq, we are there now. so something has to be done, and he outlines his plan a lil more.
but killah, all state of the union speeches are far reaching 'promises' that will most likely not occur.
when he talked about immigration and everyone appauled it made me sick. he has REFUSED to do anything, as has most of congress, and everyone knows it. Im not really sure who they were trying to fool.

the minimum wage hike will not help. It will raise prices of everything. Sure you'll make more, but everything will cost more. so it will basically be the same, but if 'feels good' to raise it. and the percentage of people actually making minimum wage is very small.

^agreed, i've noticed this in PA (our minimum wage has gone from like 5.15 to 7.00)
where i live shit is more expensive but since the minimum wage hike its went up more
and i know about the unlikely promises 8th, this isn't the first state of the union speech i've watched
and about the illegal immigration thing, i agree with you to a point, not much will be done about it
but this country needs illegal immigration like it or not, but i think it needs to be regulated with more LEGAL work visas being distributed so that we can better KEEPING track of immigrants in this country
without legal immigration most of the work done by immigrants won't be able to get done, so their needs to be a study done seeing how many immigrants are needed to complete the jobs that illegal immigrants now hold and once that happens their needs to be stricter penalties on ILLEGAL immigrants because if more than needed are entering the country it creates a drain on our society

yeah but with minimum wage going up and no other changes being made won't make a difference, everything will cost more no matter what income you make, for minimum wage to be increased something else has to be done to counter the cost so the price of other items won't go up

Ghost. Your business may not able to raise your salary. Then you will be fired?
If not you many other people.
Its not all good. I agree with basically everything 8th and killah are saying. Skimming through this topic.
I wish I had more time to comment on it.
