Ite So This Is What I'm Trying To Do. Right Now, I Have 1 Setup Thats Basically A "Stay At Home" Studio. I'm Looking Into Purchasing A Few More Items And Running Both A SAH Studio, As Well As A Mobile Studio, For On The Road, Quick Things. . .I'll Give You A Run Down On The Specs For Both.

SAH Studio:
Custom Built Desktop For Music
M-Audio ProFire 610
Alesis 3630 Compressor/Limiter
MXL V69M Mogami Edition Tube Condenser Mic
2 Rokit Rp5G2 Monitors

Mobile Studio:
Windows Powered Laptop (Running Vista)
M-Audio Fast Track Ultra
AKG Perception 200 Condenser
2 M-Audio AV40 Desktop Monitors

I'm Leaning Towards Buying The Setup For The Mobile One Mainly So I Don't Have To Constantly Breakdown My Desktop Unit, The Larger Monitors, And Unplug So Many Wires Just To Record When I'm Whipping Together A Out Of House Session. Just Curious As To What Ya'll Think About It. If It's A Good Idea Or Not

Depends on what you prefer playboy, My advice.. when you decide to get settled then make a sah studio. I Like mobility if you really tryna get it in anywhere.

I'm Buying PT M-Powered For The Home Studio, But Not For The Mobile. My Laptop Doesn't Work With It For Sum Reason, I've Already Tried In The Past.

But I'm Not Discussing Programs With These Setups Right Now, I'm Mainly Asking About Hardware And The Idea Of Having A Home Studio Thats Consistent, And A Mobile Studio Thats Always On Standby For When I Have Out-Of-House Sessions.

I have the KRKs you listed on the SAH set up and they're solid man. No complaints. I'm actually running everything off a laptop, and I'm about to purchase that ultra you listed, but i have a TASCAM 144 to keep in hand for traveling size. SO basically what differentiates my SAH and travel, is i have a smaller audio/midi interface in a backpack, i take my laptop and my headphones. Everything else sits still till i get back to mix it or whatever properly. Just piece of advice, if equipment is running its power via USB, then remove your laptop battery, it drains the shit out of it preventing it from ever holding charge again.

i'd go with a nice set of monitoring headphones instead of monitors for the mobile set-up, lugging around monitors imo would be a pain for something thats mobile even if they're small + them monitors will run you about 2 bills and probably won't be nearly as accurate as headphones that cost around the same price + i dunno where you plan on going mobile but having monitors blasting isn't plausible in alotta scenarios

Pretty much every laptop has a shitty sound card. Dre's Beat Laptop is like the only one to address that issue. I'd definitely go with desktop based upon that. Mic quality is pretty much a non factor as long as you know how to mix properly.

This guy uses a $25 mic but is a god at mixing.

Realistically if you want to put in time and effort and make the best sounding music then go with the desktop. If you less serious with it and want the mobility then go with the desktop.

@ AMH, I've Already Invested Into The Desktop Setup And It's More Than Halfway Complete. The Only Pieces I'm Missing Right Now From It Are The Monitors And A Few Desktop Items Itself. As For The Mobile One, All I Have To Purchase For That Is The Fast Track And The Mini Monitors.

@ Jesus, I Know What You Mean Bout The Headphones, But Even They'll Give You A Flat Mix Rather Than A True Mix. Thats One Thing I Do Notice About The Headphones For Mixing Deal. As For Where I'm Going Mobile, It's Like, Times When I Take Leave And Go Out Of State, Or When I Go From Downtown To Base And Have A Cat That Wants To Record But Doesn't Have A Vehicle To Get To My Place. It's Just A Quick Setup Basically.

@ Colossus, The Sound Card Won't Be An Issue At All. Thats Why I'm Buying The Fast Track Ultra. The Interface Itself Basically Becomes The Soundcard, And I Already Own Both Mics LOL They Give Me AMAZING Quality So No Complaints There. It's Really Not About The Seriousness Of My Recording (I Should Have Been More Specific When I Posted This Topic) Cuz I'ma Dedicated Dude, But It's More About Having A Setup That Fits The Scenario. I'm Going To Own The Desktop Studio No Matter What. I'm Mainly Asking About Investing In A Mobile Setup On The Side For Out Of State Projects And Other Instances. Hopefully That Cleared Up Alot Of Things LOL
