Interview with Ruckus Part 2 of 2

Today we are here with the one and only Ruckus for his first interview with Illest. Where have you been lately man.

Physically? My family and I just moved from Minnesota to Texas in May. Mentally? Seems like I've been to oblivion and back.

For those who don't know you're a veteran of the Iraq war. Care to briefly tell us what your duties were and what your position in the military is today.

My first deployment back in 2004-2005, I was the lone communications specialist in a Combat Engineers unit. My main duties were to maintain all of the communications equipment within the unit i.e. radios, computers, GPS, etc. Spent a lot of time hoofing it with the grunts carrying a radio on patrols and spent half of the deployment in the gun turret of my Commanding Officer's Humvee.

My second deployment, I was a desk jockey. I basically was thrown into a position I knew nothing about, replacing a person 3 ranks higher than me. I made it work though, it was definitely challenging in a different degree compared to my previous Iraqi adventure.

In a nutshell, any unit in southern Iraq trying to obtain communications equipment had to go through me and only me. I was kind of a big deal.

My third deployment is scheduled for May of 2011. I'll be heading to Kuwait for more fun in the sun, unless I get this job in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor making about 6 times what I'd make as a regular soldier.

What is your stance on that war, not all military agrees with the mission.

My stance is behind the troops. I support what the soldiers on the ground are doing because we are doing some good things over there. Politically, I disagree with the objective and I don't feel that we were justified to invade Iraq. On the Afghanistan side, I'm fairly skeptical that we are accomplishing anything as far as the "War On Terror" is concerned. Even if we did capture or kill Osama bin Laden, the Muslim Radical movement wouldn't come to a screeching halt. There were terrorists before bin Laden and there will be terrorists after him. I think its a misallocation of resources.

Hey dickheads its easy to hold a sign.

On a personal level, my focus in the Middle East is more on Iran than anywhere else. And I'm sure the Saudi elites also have dirt and blood on their hands.

I couldn't have said that much better myself. Enough of the Osama bashing, its time to talk about Ruckus the MC.

Everyone knows you as Ruckus. What is your real name?

Shane. I'm going to refrain from sharing my last name to avoid all of you Facebook stalkers.

Ok. Shane, what appealed to you about Illest Lyrics when you first came to the site?

I actually found the site through Google. My pal Evil Joey was an active member on another forum. Him and I would cypher constantly back and forth on Yahoo Messenger and I decided to try to find a legit forum to post my lyrics and cypher on. I actually think I did search for ill lyrics or illest lyrics or something like that (laughs). Found it, liked the layout, saw a lot of potential and talent in the members and decided to join up.

How much influence did the shoutbox have over you being an active member?

Ah, forgot to mention that. I had never been to a site with a shoutbox before so it was definitely a huge perk. I'm a cypherer, always have been and always will be. Like I said, Evil Joey and I have been going back and forth since 2002 and had been doing it for years in Yahoo chatrooms. Having the shoutbox was like a sign to me (laughs). All of these cats here for the sole purpose of rhyming plus what is basically a built-in chatroom for me to cypher in was very very appealing.

And thanks to the handy-dandy Shoutbox Archive, those ill cypher drops that are lost and forgotten can now be revived and put to good use.

That's interesting. I think that you've got more use out of that shoutbox then just about anyone. I remember when you first joined the site, not many people were mentioning you for a couple months, it wasn't until I read perfection that I knew you were something rare. It should go without saying (but it can't or he'll go crazy) that JJ was a huge advocate even when you went under the radar. What drop do you think gave you the recognition that you wanted.

I think TheRuckus featuring TheRuckus caught more I have to go have sex with my drunk wife now. bye
