Rock. Shit like Motley Crue, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Nirvana, Green Day. Then I got into rap, mostly west coast gangsta rap at first. Eazy-E, Dre, Snoop, Too Short, DJ Quik, 2pac, E-40. I still listen to rock til this day. I gotta change it up every now and then or I get bored of the music.

Is it just me, or does there appear to be a reoccuring trend of gangsta rap being a sort of gateway drug to more lyrically refined artists?

Well Gangsta Rap Gets The Most Mainstream Exposure So if u Like That You'll Naturally Seek Out More And Find Other Stuff. i Only Found Out About Undergroud Rappers Through illest/The internet/Word Of Mouth On The internet.
Only Rappers i Listened To Growing Up Were Eminem, Then Dre/2Pac/Snoop/50 Cent.
i Was More into Techno, Trance, Pop And Rock When i Was Growing Up. (Scooter, Aqua, S Club 7, Vengaboys, Oasis Etc) To Name a Few Lol.
