a good program to do what? produce or just record

producing - the three programs i've liked the most are fl studio, orion, & ableton live

recording - pro tools (need mbox hardware though), cool edit pro (old but its simple and gets the job done), adobe audition (newer version of cool edit, its kinda buggy though), cubase (you can produce on it too), sony acid

its all preferential really, these days audio programs all basically do the same thing at the same quality so just choose whichever looks like the easiest to work with (all have a little bit of a learning curve though)

depends alotta times a mixer/sequencer is worth buying just for guaranteed updates and bug fixes & support the company may offer customers, if you just wanna mess around on the computer and don't have any money to spend just demo the products to see if you like it and find a download online for them, shit can easily be found just using google

I personally use FL Studio for producing and Acid Pro for recording. Both are pretty easy to learn but a bitch to master

i use FL for producing....i used Cubase for like 2 years or so maybe more?..lol but im using Ableton Live now...shits pretty dope...does a good job....quality doesnt raelly matter wen it comes to the program....all the sound engines r practically identical its more about wat ur using to get the sound...like a mixer/USB hub and mic and wat not....all the program really does is record the sound for you...and watever editing u wanna do after...altho there is plug ins u can use that will change the sound on its way in and record it that way...but if u got a good set up those r un neccesary

I use FL Studio. Does what I need it to. I need some new packs though, I've grown bored with the ones that came with it but can't seem to find any. All I can find are sample kits. I used to have Cool Edit 2, I used it for sampling until I figured out how to do it in FL Studio. You can also record in FL Studio but it seems to be a pain in the ass so I'll use Cool Edit when I get home and pick up a mic. I tried Pro Tools but was so used to FL Studio that I was a little overwhelmed and didn't have the patience to learn to use it.

Fl Studio. It's easy to sample and it is very user friendly.
