I can name many MC's that dropped very substantive albums in the last year or two.

The Roots, T.I., Talib Kweli, Atmosphere, Joe Budden, Aesop Rock, Nas, Blu & Exile, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Mos Def, even Jay Z (maybe me and you can't relate to it as much, but its his true story just like Em tells his true story, Brother Ali, etcetera.

Personally for me, a breath of fresh air would be hearing someone rap just about cars, bling, and money because its basically impossible to find good music like that in the vain of the current trend to be political & substantive, which is a good thing but contradicts your opinion.

You can't call "Relapse" a breath of fresh air when it only had like 3 introspective songs. The rest were just really demonstrating his lyric skills as he saw fit and entertaining the people, being insane, and going back to his Shady persona.

Granted that type of music, horrorcore, isn't that popular these days, but still exists.

Eminem isn't really that much substance. That is a weak argument, in my book, because you can't name an MC that has less substance than Eminem that is in my top 20 list.

We could argue the lyrical content and the genius behind them particular songs until the end of the day.

As for radio play, he has 4 records or so that have substance that were big records. That is impressive, but I wouldn't say its the biggest step hip hop has ever taken. Will Smith has a bunch of #1 records with substance as well.

"We Made You" is probably the most ignorant record on the radio right now as well.
