cool edit pro 2.0 not free but its easy to bootleg & most importantly simple to use

check out www.filestube.com and search for it, adobe audition is basically the same thing too its just a newer version (adobe bought cool edit a few yrs ago)

it comes bundled in some packages with m-box's, & just as software

but software really has no major effect on quality without good hardware, if your mic + preamp + soundcard aren't worth a few g's you'll get the same results recording on any software, simple concept high bitrate software + average quality hardware = average quality recording, high bitrate software + high quality hardware = high quality recording

so yeah, your moneys best spent on hardware not software, mic and soundcard are the most important preamp's have some effect on quality but not as much as the mic and soundcard

buy a hub/preamp their basically the same..but not cuz u can do more wit HUBS like have MIDI in and out and multiple mic inputs...i think some preamps have multiple mic inputs...never looked into them...lol...but DJ is right...ur software doesnt really make a difference..yeah some programs have sound engines...some better than others..but in the big picture....if ur equipment is raw...ur sound will be raw regardless of if u have pro tools...cubase....ableton live...acid pro...cool edit....sonar....cake walk....anything...and of course depending on ur mixing....but...now days....no one pays for software...unless they got the money for it....but if u ask me...$800 for cubase 4?...fuuuck that bullshit...and plus most hardware...if u get a mixer or a hub come with programs such as cubase LE 4 and ableton live..granted their Light Editions...u can still get work done the same...

If you want to use Protools, the cheapest way to go about it is to purchase the MBox2Mini. I has a input for 1 XLR to run a condensed mix to, 1 Input for headphones, L&R Inputs for Studio Monitors and with a USB plug-in so it'll read to your comp. When you purchase the MBox2Mini it comes with a copy of ProTools LE 7.4 (which is the latest version of PT) The whole package is only $250 brand new from any Guitar Center or Sam Ashe.

Can't lose this way. You get the hardware and the software brand new in 1 kill.

Anyone can download an older version of Protools from a bit torrent, but it won't run without an MBox connected to your comp. It works as a key to unlock the program. So you need the digidesign hardware in order to get it to work, otherwise downloading it is pointless cuz you won't be able to use it.
