DICK RIDERY IN THE GAME & IN LIFE

To reflect on what Ekoms was talkin about when it comes to "Dick Ridery"...
...You have to look at a text battle, or an audio battle from a standpoint that would be similar to a real life battle. In real life...not everyone is lookin for the "more lyrical" artist...or the guy who "multis better"...or structures better...
...No...
...in the industry of Hip Hop, no matter if it's on the battlefield or about who's gettin more downloads and radio play...
...at the end of each day it's a popularity contest.
Argue me if you think I'm wrong, but I'm not.
Same reasons as to why gladiators of today, such as boxers and MMA's enter the ring or the octagon...it's because they want to see who the better man is. Who the alpha male of the jungle truely is. They want to do the same as gladiators from our ancestors age did...they want to win the popularity contest. Why? Because of what popularity brings. Money...Power...Riches. In the Hip-Hop battlefield it's the same thing. The rewards are similar...it's just our battles are slightly different. Instead of throwing punches...we're throwing punchlines! Instead of clashing swords...our squads and labelmates are clashing into battle with us! Instead of running the gauntlet...we're running the presence and emotion that we need to win over the crowd. To win over the listeners. The fans.
Popularity = Money
Simple equation. The more heads you bring, the better the dollar. That isn't hard to understand. So wherever the popularity is...there'll be a paycheck or some type of pay off shortly follwing.
If you think I'm lying...explain to me why Lil Wayne is considered the best rapper alive right now! Is it because of his stunning lyrics and his good looks? Absolutely not. He knows how to work the crowd to his advantage. He has the popularity contest on lock right now! I have personally never owned a Lil Wayne CD in my life, most likely never will. But none the less...the man has out-shined alot of artists who are better looking, more lyrical and smarter than he is. But that's the name of the game. Popularity.
Same reason alot of the polls show Obama over McCain right now. Because change is more important that experience at the moment. People now or days seem to care about what they want to see, more than what may be logical. And that's in all aspects of life. Not just politics, not just the music or Hip-Hop...everything.
So is it really a suprise that the people are going to vote for the man who represent change more than they'll vote for the man who might be more qualified for the job? Is it really a suprise that people wanna see the more ugly, popular guy that they'd personally like at the top of the Hip-Hop mountain than the decent lookin guy who spits more conscious rhymes that people can relate to?
No. Atleast not to me this isn't a suprise.
Experience, lyrics, looks, background, race, etc etc...have shit to do with it now! It's free reign. Anybody can get away with anything now or days. All gimmicks sell. All scandels surfaced bring air time or popularity. Doesn't matter anymore if you if it's positive attention or negative attention on you...so long as the spotlight is on you reguardless! And thats the honest truth of the matter.
This is the direction that our world is turning in. And no matter if you like that or not, it's a world you're just going to have to live in.
