Re: views on religion
I know im new to this site and don't have much respect from every1 yet.. but imma drop my opinion anyways about this very touchy topic... This might take a while so please bare with me..
There are many different styles of belief out here in this world today.. It is good to have a belief system to help you through life. Now I am Christian (Christian in my eyes is not a religion)(I will explain this a little further down). Christian means.. Christ-Like.. So to be Christian you must BELIEVE that God sent his son down to earth to Live sin free, to teach and be a guide line on how You need to live.. Next you must BELIEVE that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins then 3 days later rose from the dead. If you BELIEVE that he came and did all that then its up to you to follow his teachings and be Christ-Like.
The Bible is a touchy subject cuz it was written by man.. And it has been translated into many different languages. But for my opinion alone, If you truly read the bible (Old Testament) That is all the Prophecies that are for told into the 2nd coming of Christ.. 100's and 100's of prophecies are told and so far The Bible is the only Book to have all prophecies come true.. Except for ones that have not came yet. So it is up to you if you want to BELIEVE that the Bible is the Living Word of God or Not..
Religion to me is just man himself reading the bible and taking verses or scripture differently then say his neighbor, So his neighbor starts a church to his understanding and there you have 2 different religions coming from the same scripture.. Religion only brings up tensity, hatred, greed and jealousy.. Catholic, Pentecostal, Baptist, Methodist, Seventh Day Adventist and so on and so on.. They all believe in One God, they all believe in Jesus Christ, they all believe in the Holy Spirit but they are all so different and its all because of their understanding of the bible. Its up to you to find a place where you can go and be with Christ as you fellowship your fellow brothers and sisters.. Where 2 or more are gathered there i am in the mist of them. Matthew 18:20...
Well this is my very short summarized version lol.. This is just my Personal Opinion.. Its all Believe i have about this subject.. I don't really need facts or science for belief.. So yea.. Thanks Illest

Philippians 4:13
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
Psalms 23:4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Re: views on religion
Oh goody, a religion thread lol.
I believe a few things, including:
1) There is no God
2) There is no Heaven and Hell
3) Jesus Christ is not the son of God, in fact, if he truly did exist, he may have just been a little fucked up in the head. I mean, look at Charles Manson. You read about him and think "Oh my God, the man is a lunatic" but yet he still got people to believe that Beatles records were warning him of the apocalypse. Get my drift? People are gullable.
4) The Bible, Qoran, basically all religious scriptures, literatures, art, etc are just that. Art. Novels, fairy tales, stories made up and passed on from person to person.
Religion or the idea that there is some kind of higher "power" or being is one of the oldest thoughts known to man. I believe it was created out of ignorance to explain the unexplainable at the time and as a form of government. A tool to instill fear into the hearts and minds of the people to get them to act a certain way. True, some of the Ten Commandments are good guidelines to live what some would call a moral life. But here's the catch. Man is a mammal. An animal. A successor to what we call apes and monkeys. How can you look at a chimp and NOT see the similarities? You're telling me that God created man, but then created monkeys? What a mockery. Humans are the only animal that we know of on this planet that have the mental capacity to even grasp a concept such as religion. Man is a curious animal, an animal that wants to learn and know as much about his/her surroundings as possible. Let's look back at history a little bit and ponder some of the other ideas that people swore were the absolute truth, only to be proven wrong as man and technology progressed...
We used to think the earth was flat. Clearly, after the invention of boats and a few voyages around the world proved that assumption to be incorrect. We used to believe that beyond the clouds was Heaven, and beneath us was Hell. We now know that beneath us lies layers and layers of dirt, rock, magma, and the earth's core. Sorry, you can dig all you want, but you won't find any devils and demons, just some extremely hot gases and molten rock. After the invention of the telescope and later the space shuttle, we observed that beyond the clouds is this vast and unexplained place called outer space where other planets and stars exist. If there is a God and he is so focused on mankind, why even bother creating the other planets in our solar system? Why create other galaxies and universes?

Whew, ran out of space...
The bottom line is this: Religion is a very primitive concept that has evolved from multiple gods down to one over thousands of years, the same way that ape evolved into man. Cavemen knew nothing of outer space or evolution and had no understanding of how and why the world is the way it is. But they wanted to know and understand, so they tried. The Bible may be full of all of these prophesies, some may have come true but really it means nothing. It is still just a book. There are millions and millions of books in existence today. I'm willing to bet that you can go to the library and find a book predicting what will happen in the future and some of it may end up actually happening. Look how vague these "prophesies" are. They couldn't prophesize that apes and humans are in fact related? Or that beyond the clouds and skies lies a giant oblivion where other planets just like ours more than likely exist, with the same chemical make up and atmosphere as earth where species such as our own could evolve. Do you think THEY believe in a God? People treat humanity as some kind of special little project. We're not special. We're just smart enough and had enough spare time to come up with some pretty crazy ideas that continue to be washed out as science progresses and we learn more and more about the universe. I prophesize that in the future, religion will eventually be phased out of mainstream thinking and the generations will quit embracing ancient hearsay. I also prophesize that when this happens, there will be pockets of underground religions, praying and preaching in the shadows of civilization. Why? Because humans are weak and too superstitious. If you think carrying a rabbit's foot will in some way effect your life, you will probably be one of them. I can't even begin to imagine the accomplishments mankind could enjoy if people stopped praying to false gods and started believing in the only thing that can do anything for you in life: yourself.

Hmmmm. I was all prepared to say something and then I got to Ruckus' post above. Game over. Well spoken, my friend.

Re: views on religion
The reason people believe in religion so much is because people are always looking for an answer to questions like, "why are we here?", and "is this all there is?” Religion gives answers to these questions, true or not, and people see that these beliefs are wildly respected and believed in. Which ties back to what Ruckus said. People are gullible. I am agnostic for the simple fact that no one can really say what's what, and the fact that Greek Mythology and religions like Christianity are both ancient and written but uneducated people, yet Christianity is still a major religion. I always wonder for what reason. They are both farfetched. But I also have seen the need for religion because of discipline and an anotherr motive to be a good person. Religion and paranoia are the same for the fact that they are both an example of fear both on something that may or may not happen. So in retrospect, religion is not a basis for a good argument, or justification for your actions, but it is also a good way to keep people in check and maintain somewhat of a level of order.
