I saw this thread and shook my head, though it started as "least favorite mc" it was destined to become hater nation united. I decided to read it and saw someone say Nas and violently shook my head. I will have you know that 9 out of 10 of your favorite rappers will put Nas above themselves so he is kind of your favorite rappers favorite rapper. I scrolled down skimming through the names seeing many of you mention producers and people who are vital to the game even if they do suck hard when it comes to lyricism. Example Puffy, I'm not a puffy fan even the few verses he spit that weren't horrible he didn't write. I was very unhappy with how he handled certain artists that I really like (the lox). However, he is a very talented producer who worked hard to get where he is (he started as an unpaid intern while going to school). He is responsible for "discovering" Biggie who I hope no one mentioned in this thread. He helped mary j blidge with her career as well as listening to her when no other record company would take on The Lox.

Harboring negative energy for a successful person is very unproductive and even damaging to your own psyche. With that said I will mention a few things more relevant to the topic, with a positive twist.

Lil Wayne, for a long time I held a strong hatred and at times even credited him with the "death" of Hip Hop. I began to open my eyes to him more when I heard his verses on the 2 songs with eminem. Then I even went 3 min out of my way to pirate I am not a human being and I actually enjoyed it. Since then I have come to realize that he used marketing and "plain folks appeal" to bring rhymes and beats to people who weren't listening to it the whole time Nas was making classics.

50 cent, kind of the opposite for me. I live in NJ and am very grateful to be close enough to the capitol of hip hop (imo of course). I am able to get myself a nice taste of underground mixtapes whether it's being passed around somewhere or if I visit NYC or Atlantic City. 50 was fucking dope on the mixtape circuit. If you get the chance to go peep "Guess who's back", DO IT! I was listening to this among many other mixtape tracks and freestyles hoping/waiting for this cat to get signed, I really thought he could change the game. Then he got signed to shady and has since dropped garbage (again, imo). Whether it was the hunger keeping him hot or he tried to use some appeal to get in the purses of 15 yr old girls (the demographic that everyone is targeting because they actually pay for their shit).

All in all, instead of hating try to open your perception the views of these people. Some of them are not "rappers" they are something else that happens to rap. You don't grade a running back entirely on how well he can block, but you can bet your ass sometimes he is going to have to. While others simply couldn't afford to only please those of us who dig real hip hop, so they had to appeal to whatever consumers would buy them their house and pay the salary of their bodyguards.

Damn that's some long shit but I hope someone learns something from it...
