MagicMark - One More Night With You.

Post by MagicMark »

Hey all,

Any rappers who want to practice / Have time / like the beat, who want to drop on it, can do just that, and it would be appreciated lol.

http://soundcloud.com/theadonis/one-more-night-with-you

Sampled Mariah Carey's - My all. Criticism/feedback on it welcome. Only my second rap beat ever made. So more a fun piece. Any rappers who can work with it, give it a go.

Cheers.

Decent. Thot you could of flipped the sample a bit better. I dono. Something sounded forced. Maybe a kick or somethin' but seemed like too much was in there. Overall, I thot it was decent tho.

Shout man, thanks for the feed. Thats what i've been getting alot of lol, need to mix up the sample abit. Also, people think the sample melody for the verse part has a bit of clashing with my pattern so sounds a bit busy. trying to work on that too lol.

thanks again.

Lol, okay, i'll rework it. Must just be cause i made it lol, but i like the way it sounds.

I usually try and make dance / trance music, so this was part of my first few attempts to make a rap /hip hop beat.

What software do you use to make your beats HJ? Any tips on how to change whats wrong etc.

Thanks again.

EDIT - I need more constructive criticism, Where is it offtime, or is it the whole thing? (Is the clashing my made drum pattern with the drums from the sample?) I Can hear some some clashing when the chorus hits in, but when the melody for the verses is on it sounds fine to me (any specifically bad points you cud point out?). And is the fade out comment directed at the way i looped the melody? How would u work it? Tips for Sampling / getting rid of clashing? etc etc. cheers

This goes for anyone too.

yeah the drums aren't matched with the drums from the sample/where they would be if they were there (on the parts where theirs no drums), when you sample its best to cut in even sections like i usually do 1, 2, or 4 bars it sounds like you didn't cut the sample at the downbeat & @ even bars on the verse section & you left too much on the end of the hook, drum pattern also seems too fast for the tempo too many kicks in the pattern as well

when i sample something with drums i typically use a high pass filter and then make sure every kick/snare hits directly on & then add some extra hits & additional percussion to the pattern after for flavor

tips for sampling stick with intros/breaks where theirs no drums alot easier to work with & figure out the bpm/bar length of each sample so you can cut it at even sections & on most programs you can input the bpm and it'll stretch it automatically

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... ID=7446298

for reference last track i sampled with drums in it you can hear how all the drums are perfectly layered & the different sections i cut up are blended perfectly together, granted i didn't pitch it or change the tempo or do anything drastic to the sample but it'll give you an idea of what i'm talking about

sampling more or less trial and error till you get the hang of it, rarely a samples perfect so you gotta adjust and sometimes you go wrong more than you go right keep practicing and you'll get the hang of it it's more or less mathematical in nature so learning its just a matter of recognizing patterns and formulas that work rather than the certain unintangibles involved in writing music from scratch

oh and i use fl & cool edit pro (for chopping up samples) granted i don't sample much at all anymore hopefully mass effex or dynamiq will give you some tips cause thats more of their domain
