Interview With Kurse
I highly recommend everyone read the latest interview. The interview was conducted with Kurse from A.M.E. An up and coming record label ran by Kurse himself. In this interview Kurse tells stories about meeting Viral. He talks about his label getting into beef. With surprising incite he takes us through the everyday life of running a label. Even if its just a small one in Chicago. Though he does claim it is stressing he still comes off very optamystik throughout the interview."I try not to think negatively...so there's no room for failure". At the end of the interview he gives some advice that is must read. He speaks on himself pointing out his dedication for hip-hop. The interview is very interesting. I personally recommend it to anyone with ten minutes on their hand. Also please keep checking out the creation chamber. Where you can quickly download as a guest or member the latest drops from A.M.E
Illestlyrics.com: Thanks for doing this interview Kurse.
Kursed Records: anytime man
Illestlyrics.com: What originally got you into hip-hop?
Kursed Records: to be honest...just the over all sound. I got into it when I was young...like 5th grade...listenin to Big Daddy Kane, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Slick Rick and Heavy D and The Boyz...just sumthin about it, ya know
Kursed Records: It just struck me more than any other genre of music did
Illestlyrics.com: I feel you. After you realized hip-hop was going to be your genre of music. What was the next step?
Kursed Records: Well...one of my older cousins which has made a huge name for himself here in Chicago (DJ Hollywood) was always spinning his records and doin his thang with other big DJ's such as DJ Fast Eddie and the late Kool RockSteady...I guess I just idolized that at a young age cause Hip-Hop and DJ'ing always went hand and hand...especially in the late 80's
Kursed Records: The jogging suits...Adidas...British Knights...big-ass gold rope chains...
Kursed Records: ...the shit was just appealing. So I started to mimic that lifestyle. After a while it just became who I was.
Illestlyrics.com: Cool. So how did the record label come about?
Kursed Records: A.M.E. (Anger Manij'ment Entertainment) just came off as an idea to get rich. I didn't care what it was known for...Underground mixxtapes...rediculous shit caught on tape between me and my friends to sell DVD's...whatever. I just wanted to market sumthin to make some kind of money and name for myself...
Kursed Records: but to be honest...
Kursed Records: ...the name came about from my mother. She kinda gave me the idea.
Kursed Records: See...
Kursed Records: ...when I was younger I guess you could say I wasn't the best kid in the world. Dad skipped out when I was 4...mom worked fulltime to keep a roof over our heads...so I guess you could say I just started running with the wrong crowd...
Kursed Records: ...so as I got a lil older...around 17 years of age...my mother and I would be at eachothers throats...I didn't wanna listen to shit. So I'd be yelling...ranting...being a disrespectful Lil snot and my mom would say, "Rock...you need some Anger Management or sumthin"
Kursed Records: Well I changed the spelling a lil bit and it just kinda stuck.
Illestlyrics.com: Interesting. Who was the first person you signed and why?
Kursed Records: I was doin alot of solo work...and my first time in a booth was over in the Studio of a faction called Crook County Clique here in the city...but once I started recording with a personal friend and his company called Artein Records...the guy who ran it suggested I do sumthin with this kid called Viral just for the hell of it. They said he could rap...so I said fuck it...tell him to call me and lemme see what he can do. So it was just kinda history since then...Viral and I have collaborated on atleast 8 or 9 tracks together. Some released...others not. And once A.M.E. got it's strong foot on the ground and I left Artein...he came with.
Illestlyrics.com: Oh. I had no idea that Viral was the first person signed to a.m.e. What are the future plans for the label?
Kursed Records: Well...what we're looking into at the moment is Incorperating the name. I have a temporary copyright on the name until it's finalized, but I wanna be able to Incorperate it so I can start putting out company checks and give it a stronger foundation. Make it more stable and professional. As far as talent is concerned...we have alot of talent on the roster at the moment, but there's always room for others if they bring sum hott shit to the table. I just want the company to grow and maybe grab the attention of a larger label to sign with. Funding is a good thing.
Illestlyrics.com: Sounds good. What are you doing to promote the label right now?
Kursed Records: Myspace is a huge tool. Anybody who wanted to find me and my current projects and showtimes can find me there at http://www.myspace.com/kursedrecords1 But I also promote on soundvolume.com, migente.com, thestreetspace.com and others. I perform at various venues and clubs during the spring and summer seasons...at the performances my street team sells my CD's and Mixxtapes...other merchandise...flyers...we promote anyway we can. Like I have gurls on my myspace that send me pictures of themselves where they wrote their name somewhere on their body. lol It's a promotional tool...helps people remember the name. But we do what we can. I have a street team...a promotions team...but I overlook everything that's put out and done.
Illestlyrics.com: That's great.
Illestlyrics.com: As an artist what do you bring to your labels table?
Kursed Records: Diversity...dedication...faith. Alot of things. I bring everything I've got in me to the table. I want so badly to succeed. Sure...when I was younger this shit used to be a hobby...but now it's a way of life. It's what I've chose for an occupation. I know my label is underground...but I take it serious. As serious as I would had I been running a mainstream and much larger label. As far as diversity...I try to switch up my flow and the manner in which a present myself to those who listen to what i do. As far as dedication...I take my time with the tracks i work on. I take my time on my other artists projects. I trust them as much as they trust me to get shit done. It's overwhelming sometimes cuz if I'm not composing the tracks, I'm writing them...if not writing, I'm recording...if not recording, then I'm mixing. I work hard. And I have faith in everything. I think everything has a purpose and promise. If I stick with this...I have faith that it'll pay off in the end. And when it all feels stressful...when I feel the weight of shit on my shoulders...I just think of my lil girl. My daughter is my motivation behind all of my moves. If not being successful for myself...I owe it to her.
Illestlyrics.com: Wow. Is there a backup plan though?
Kursed Records: Never. I try not to think negatively...so there's no room for failure.
Kursed Records: Sometimes shit just has to be treated in or DO OR DIE way...otherwise it may never get done.
Illestlyrics.com: Right. Any final comments on the beef with demented that you put to rest?
Kursed Records: Oh man...
Kursed Records: ...well...it's good that it's said and done. I mean done get me wrong...
Kursed Records: ...as fun as animosity may be at times (cause we all know it breeds attention)...it was taking me away from my other projects that I had planned
Illestlyrics.com: What are your views on beef in hip-hop? Does it ever go to far?
Kursed Records: well...
Kursed Records: yea...all things have to reach a point of no return. and sometimes shit gets carried away. For example...
Kursed Records: this past summer we were at a local festival (my street team and I), and we were selling my freshman project, "The Recipe 4 Disaster"...and we landed up bumping into a rival label that was there putting there shit out too...
Kursed Records: well...
Kursed Records: ...before you know it...my whole mob is there...their clique is there and it's becoming a very heated and verbal thing in the middle of a festival that had maybe 4-5 thousand people walkin around. Now I'm not gonna say the name of the rival artists or their label...but before you know it, shit got escalated.
Kursed Records: ...one thing led to another...
Kursed Records: ...and before you know it, fists get to swinging.
Kursed Records: well...
Kursed Records: ...I'm not gonna brag on my guys or anything...but we don't play that kiddie shit and 3 of the guys on their label got fucked up. 2 out of 3 got arrested...those same 2 were taken to the medical tent. 1 of our guys got taken, Joe Jilla to be specific...and we had to post $1000. to get him out.
Kursed Records: Yea...drawers were kicked in asses...and it all started over beef on tracks.
Kursed Records: Shits been calm since them, but yea...there's no question that sometimes hip-hop beef can go to far. That was just ass kickins...the shit could've gotten worse.
Kursed Records: People die over silly shit everyday. In a world where 13 yr olds are dying and being killed outside of a store for a playstation 3...there's no doubt that niggaz are getting hurt for the shit they talk.
Illestlyrics.com: No doubt. What is the funniest part about running the label?
Kursed Records: well...I guess all the gatherings...as much as I try to keep it strictly business most of the time so shit can get done...it happens to steer off sometimes...get a lil crunk...hit the video games...get rowdy. It's like a party waiting to happen if we get side-tracked. lol But the most rewarding part would have to be getting together and just getting a hott track done. The kinda track to where it's finished...you sit there, listen to it...and ur like, "Yea...people are gonna love dat shit."
Kursed Records: Taking pride in ur work is the best part.
Illestlyrics.com: Well. Illest Lyrics wishes you the best luck in your future endeavours. We will continue to support your music. Thanks for this interview. Any last comments?
Kursed Records: Well...
Kursed Records: ...thank you for taking enough interest in me to spend your vaulable time to conduct the interview...
Kursed Records: and...
Kursed Records: And you have my promise here on illestlyrics...that I'ma bring you the hottest shit I can from my small label here in Chicago.
Kursed Records: Oh by the way...
Kursed Records: if the right eyes should fall upon this interview...G-Unit...holla at'cha boi!
Illestlyrics.com: That's great advice. - Interview Closed-

Snatched away from you because its my night

Thanx everyone again for the awesome feedback...glad y'all take interest enough to read the interview. But sorry...didn't know about the "name-game" y'all...had I known, I would've mentioned more of y'all. So my bad...my bad. As for Killah's question...nah...I'm not wit a publishing group at the moment. Everything is in the works though...gotta take 1 step at a time.
The one thing I gotta say though about the interview that I've noticed is that alot of you learned about alot of shit...or atleast where niggaz stand. Even how they got involved. lol Shit...Viral knows most of the shit and even he was like, "Dayum...now I know." lol But that's good...I'm glad to see that this cleared up alot of questions that may've been floating around.
