Have to agree with my Lil brutha up there mayne...

The effect on your voice is what takes away from the song itself. It sounds like you either added sometype of flanger, or filter on it that altered your voice. Because it's definately not your natural voice just laced onto the track. I'm not sure what you're doing in the mixing stages that makes you sound that way..
...but when it comes to the mixing game, you want to sound as natural off the clip and you can be. No flangers, reverbs, filters, delays...none of that. Leave your verse alone. Only thing you should be doing to it is making sure that the volume level of it is flush with your beat. They need to tango together as one. The beat can't be too over bearing on the vocals...and the vocals can't extinguish the impact of the beat. They have to be in harmony...or atleast as close to being in harmony as can be.
Cuz if you have a condensed mic along with Phantom power...you shouldn't be sounding that un-natural. Could be that maybe you're spittin too far from the mic. It's hard to say what the problem is here. I'd have to hear a soundfile of your vocals unedited to have a better idea of where the problem lies.
Past all of that ofcourse...it wasn't bad lyrically. The beat was definately commendable. The way I look at it...is if it's sumthin I could ride, then it's a good beat. And that sir...I can ride. So props on that.

Lookin forward to hearing more of what you can do.

good to hear. I've been adding all kinds of shit to my vocals cause my mic picks up hella shit in the background so i use a noise removal shit with the surrounding noise as the basis of the removal. Then... that shit actually makes my vocals lower as a result so i add the effects to make it louder and bring out some of what the noise removal took away.

I do all my recordin by myself so i have to work the program and record in the same room. lol. what advice ya got for this homie?

I knew it. haha That explains it. Thats why I was curious as to if it were an effect, filter or distance from the mic. lol
The noise elimination filter condenses background noise, thus lowering vocals and giving them the presentation of being too far from the mic. (you can tell by the slight muffled sound of the vocals)

Simple solution. Stop using that filter. And record either somewhere quiet or when it's quiet. Do those two things and your quality in vocals will improve drastically. I record and mix in the same room myself, but my shit always comes out crisp. It's just a matter of controling the enviornment. Turn off the TV, turn off all cell phones, tellin the niggaz to shut up, closing the door, make sure the windows are closed, etc, etc.
Even if it gets hot and stuffy and you have to turn the air and vents off...you only have to put up with the discomfort for the short time you record. Once your done and your mixing...turn the shit back on! lol
